family expectations
Families of actors will be expected to support the show in the following ways:
- Ensure your child is to rehearsals on time and make the show a priority during the short 6 weeks we have until opening
- Remind your child to work on material at home, help with memorization, and moral support
- Pledge to sell at minimum 10 show tickets. You may use these tickets for your own family to see the show, or re-sell the tickets to friends, family, neighbors.
- Volunteer a minimum of 2 performances: concessions, mic support, costume support, on-book support, etc. If you don't have the time to volunteer for 2 performances, you can buy out your volunteer time for $40.
- Help us out by promoting the show and selling Playbill ads!
casting
Our production will accept 30-35 performers (or the figure determined based on need per show), determined by an audition and call-backs. Casting isn't always easy, and there is so much that goes into the decisions we make. Read more about that here.
Sudbrink Academy auditions will be competitive and productions are not double-cast. We may decide to provide an opportunity for select students to Understudy a role. Read more about our Philosophy and why we make cuts.

tech and crew production opportunities
We will hold a Stage Management Seminar prior to auditions. Any interested students can participate in the Stage Management Seminar, and gain hands-on experience as stage crew for the show. One student will be selected to shadow the Stage Manager and be given extra responsibilities for the run of the show.
We will also have an opportunity for a student board operator, a student prop assistant, and a student costume assistant!

WHAT TO PREPARE
- Prepare 45-60 seconds of song from a musical or Disney movie. Please do not sing a song from Beauty and the Beast. Bring appropriate sheet music for accompanist, with cuts marked. If you feel lost, contact us and we'll help you! We will also have Audition Workshops to help you get ready. Contact us for details.
- Prepare a 15-20 second speech, monologue, or poem, memorized. It can be from a play, from a book - it doesn't matter! It can be from anything, we just want to hear your voice.
- There will be a short dance audition.
- Please bring a photo of yourself. Does not need to be professional.
Practice your music with an accompanist at an Audition Workshop!
Lost on the monologue? We can help you find one at our Group Monologue Workshop!
If you need help finding a song, contact us for a private audition prep lesson.
DANCER AUDITIONS
For this show, we will also hold dancer auditions. 1 to 5 dancers will be selected for a dance feature. These dancers are not considered part of the core cast. (Unless the dancer is also cast as an actor) Actors and non-actors may audition for the dancer position. Actors may audition for these features as well.
For the Featured Dancer audition, please prepare a minimum 30 second lyrical dance piece and provide your own music. If you are not also auditioning for the Cast, that is all you need to do for your audition. Those auditioning for both will be able to do it all in one time slot. Thank you!
